Wedding Guest Jewellery: What to Wear With Your Dress
· 2 min read
A wedding is a long day: a ceremony, photos in the sun, a dinner, a dance floor and sometimes a swim at midnight. Wedding guest jewellery has to look dressed up at 2 p.m. and still be on at 2 a.m.
The rule is simple: one focal point, chosen by your neckline.

Start with the neckline
- Strapless or off the shoulder: a necklace at the collarbone, or statement earrings and nothing at the neck.
- V-neck: a pendant that follows the V, on a 45 to 50 cm chain.
- High neck or halter: no necklace. Earrings and a cocktail ring do the work.
- Round neck: a short chain above the fabric, or layered fine chains.
Gold or silver with your dress colour
Gold warms up green, burgundy, terracotta, cream and black. Silver suits blue, grey, lilac, pink and icy pastels. With a print or a mix of colours, pick the metal of your shoes or bag, or wear both: mixing gold and silver looks deliberate when it is two to one.
Don’t compete with the bride
Big pearls, a tiara or a lot of white crystal belong to her. Coloured stones, warm gold and a single bold piece are yours. One statement, a pair of earrings or a cocktail ring, is more elegant than three.
Built for the whole day
Earrings with a closed back stay on through hugs and dancing. Waterproof steel survives a rainy ceremony, a spilled drink and a late swim. And hoops you can sleep in mean nothing goes missing in the hotel room.
