Matching Jewellery for Couples and Best Friends: How to Do It Well
· 2 min read
Matching jewellery has an image problem: two halves of a heart, engraved names, a piece only one of you likes. Done well, it is subtle. The same ring in two finishes, or a chain you both wear every day without thinking about it.
Here is how to choose, for a couple or a best friend.

Same piece, two metals
The easiest way to match without looking matched: the same ring or chain, one in gold, one in silver. Each wears the metal that suits them, and the shape says the rest. If one of you already mixes metals, a two-tone piece ties both together.
Rings: two sizes, one style
Matching rings come in two sizes, and the size is where it goes wrong. Measure both: a string around the base of the finger, or a ring each already wears. A plain or interlinked band works on any hand; a ring with a stone is better for one of you only.
Chains: the easiest match
- No size to guess: a chain fits both of you.
- Two lengths: 45 cm sits on the collarbone, 50 cm a little lower, on a larger neck.
- Waterproof: worn in the shower and at the gym, it is always on, which is the point.
For best friends
Friendship jewellery should be wearable alone. A fine chain or small hoops look like a choice, not a costume, and still mean something to the two of you. Easy to give in pairs: two pieces under €30 each.
