How to Wear a Cuff Bracelet: Putting It On, Wrist Position and Styling

· 3 min read

A cuff is a rigid bracelet with an opening at the back. No clasp, no chain: it slides on from the side and holds by its shape. A wide, polished gold cuff is one of the pieces of the season — it reads from across the room and needs nothing next to it.

Here is how to put one on without forcing it, where it should sit, and how to wear it every day.

How to Wear a Cuff Bracelet: Putting It On, Wrist Position and Styling

Putting it on (and off) the right way

Don't open it wider each time you put it on. A cuff can be adjusted a little, once, but bending it back and forth weakens the metal and marks the finish.

  1. Turn your wrist sideways and find its narrowest part, just above the wrist bone.
  2. Slide the opening of the cuff over that narrow part, from the side.
  3. Rotate the cuff a quarter turn so the opening sits under the wrist.
  4. To take it off, do the same in reverse — never pull it straight off the hand.

Where it should sit

On the wrist bone: the classic place, where it moves a little and catches the light.

Higher on the forearm: for a wide cuff, a few centimetres up the arm looks deliberate and stays put. With short sleeves, it is the most striking position.

It should not slide over the hand, and it should not mark the skin. If it does either, it needs a gentle adjustment once.

Alone or stacked

A wide cuff is a stack on its own. Wear it alone on one wrist and keep the other wrist for a watch or a thin bracelet.

If you want to stack, add only thin pieces in the same metal — a fine chain bracelet or a slim bangle on the side towards the hand. Two wide pieces side by side clash.

What to wear with a gold cuff

  • Black and white: a black knit or a white shirt makes the gold do all the talking.
  • Pushed-up sleeves: a cuff is made to be seen; roll the sleeve to just above it.
  • Simple earrings and rings: one strong piece per outfit is the rule that keeps it elegant.
  • Over a fine sleeve in winter: a wide cuff can sit over a thin, fitted sleeve — very current.

Wearing it every day

A cuff is in contact with everything: the desk, the steering wheel, water. In 316L stainless steel with PVD gold, water, sweat and hand cream don't tarnish it, so it can stay on through the day and the shower.

FAQ

How do you put on a cuff bracelet?

Slide the opening over the narrowest part of the wrist, from the side, then turn the cuff so the opening sits underneath. Never pull it open.

Which wrist should a cuff go on?

Either. Most people wear it on the wrist without a watch, so it has the space to itself.

Can you adjust a cuff bracelet?

A little, once, with gentle and even pressure. Bending it back and forth repeatedly weakens it.

Can a gold cuff get wet?

A 316L stainless steel cuff with PVD gold can: water and sweat do not tarnish it.

One cuff, a bare wrist around it, and the sleeve rolled up. That is the whole look.

One piece, the whole wrist.
